Playing Atmos titles in HBO MAX does output sounds from my Height Speakers- but as mentioned the XBOX seems to do that for all sound - even menus- by default. This is an annoying design choice by Microsoft to output and “upscale” all audio in an Atmos container- even when playing Stereo or 5.1 content. When the XBOX is correctly set up to decode and output Dolby Atmos it does so at all times. Output on my XBOX One X is a bit more complex to explain. This seems to contradict the HBO Max website above. This seems in error as it will correctly output Dolby Digital Plus using 2 speakers for Stereo titles and using 5.1 speakers for 5.1 titles. However when using the HBO Max app to play (or cast) Atmos titles….they only are output in 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus. My Chromecast with Google TV dongle is correctly is set up to Automatically output Dolby Atmos- or as it calls it “Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus”- and does output it correctly with Atmos titles in Netflix and Disney+. I have both devices and my experience is…fuzzy at best. Note Dolby Atmos is not available with Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung TVs, VIZIO 4K Smart TVs, Xbox consoles, and Xfinity devices. That same page indicates that XBOX Consoles support 4K HDR but there is a note stating that they do not support Dolby Atmos: Google Chromecast Ultra and Chromecast with Google TV.Android TVs, including: AT&T Streaming Box.Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Cube. You can watch in 4K on the following devices: This page indicates that the Google’s Chromecast with Google TV dongle now “supports 4K HDR” and there is no note stating it does not support Dolby Atmos: HBO Max’s Help site amalgamates 4K HDR and Atmos and its a difficult to get a clear answer. Original post: Trying to wrap my head around which devices will actually output Dolby Atmos on enabled titles from HBO Max in USA. Removing it and sideloading Version 50.40.2.241 allows Dolby Atmos to output correctly on titles like Dune and Wonder Woman 84. Update: Latest version of the HBO Max is bugged with Dolby Atmos output on the Chromecast with Google TV.
